You finally made the decision to do things God’s way. You prayed about it, you committed to it, and you stepped into it with intention. And then, almost immediately, things got harder instead of easier.
For many women, this creates a quiet confusion. You expected peace, clarity, and progress, but instead you experienced tension, pressure, and unexpected hits in areas that seemed completely unrelated. It can leave you wondering if you did something wrong or if you missed God altogether.
The truth is, what you are experiencing is not uncommon. In fact, it is often a sign that something deeper is happening than you may have realized.
When women begin to experience this tension, they often wrestle with questions like these:
• Why does it feel like everything gets harder when I try to do the right thing?
• Am I doing something wrong or missing God?
• Why do problems show up right when I start growing spiritually?
• Is this just life, or is something spiritual happening?
• Why do I feel attacked when I step into something new?
These questions are real, and they point to something important that many believers have not been taught to recognize.
You are not being punished for doing the right thing. You are stepping into a real spiritual battle that requires awareness, preparation, and intentional engagement.
The Bible teaches that our struggles are not just natural, they are often spiritual. In Ephesians 6, we are told that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces that operate beyond what we can see.
Scripture also makes it clear that the enemy has a specific goal. John 10:10 explains that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, not just physically, but in ways that affect your peace, your focus, your relationships, and your ability to walk in purpose.
At the same time, the Bible reminds us that we are not powerless. We are called to be alert, humble, and prepared because there is an adversary who is actively seeking opportunities to disrupt what God is doing in our lives.
One of the most important things to understand is that this is not random. What feels like chaos often has a pattern, and that pattern reveals that you are in a real spiritual fight.
Think about it this way. In a boxing match, no serious opponent steps into the ring unprepared. The moment someone underestimates the fight, they put themselves at risk. In the same way, many believers step into purpose assuming that good intentions and faith alone are enough, but they have not trained for what comes with it.
There is a powerful illustration in the idea of showing up unprepared. Imagine walking into a serious fight thinking your confidence alone will carry you. That is what it looks like when we rely on past victories, emotions, or surface-level faith without actively preparing ourselves through truth, prayer, and discipline.
Another layer to this is understanding that the enemy is not guessing. He studies patterns. He watches where you are vulnerable, where you get discouraged, and where you tend to withdraw. If something worked before, he will come back to it again until you recognize it and respond differently.
This is why the same types of hits can feel familiar. It might show up through relationships, fear, insecurity, distraction, or even unexpected problems that pull your attention away from what God is calling you to do. The goal is not always to destroy you completely, but to sideline you just enough that you stop moving forward.
What makes this even more challenging is that these hits often come right when you are making progress. You step out, you grow, you commit, and then something happens that makes you question whether it was worth it. If you do not understand what is happening, you may interpret resistance as failure instead of recognizing it as opposition.

This changes how you interpret what you are going through. Instead of assuming that difficulty means you are off track, you begin to consider that it may mean you are moving in the right direction.
There are some things you need to release. You need to release the belief that doing the right thing will always feel easy. You also need to release the idea that struggle automatically means you missed God.
There are also shifts you need to make. You need to move from being reactive to being aware. That means paying attention to patterns, recognizing where you tend to get hit, and preparing yourself in those areas instead of ignoring them.
Most importantly, there are actions you need to take. You need to take your spiritual life seriously. That means engaging with the Word of God, developing a consistent prayer life, and being intentional about how you respond when pressure shows up. It also means not isolating yourself, because you are not the only one in this fight.
When you understand what is happening, you stop being surprised by the resistance. And when you stop being surprised, you can start being prepared.
Where have you recently experienced resistance after trying to do the right thing, and what might that reveal about where you need to become more aware and prepared?
